From Waste to Wellness: Don’t Miss the CEC and Partners Food Waste Prevention Week Webinar!
Did you know that each year, around 170 million tonnes of food produced for human consumption are wasted or lost in Canada, Mexico and the United States? The disposal of food waste in landfills produces methane, a powerful greenhouse gas many times more potent than carbon dioxide. Food loss and waste also have environmental and socio-economic impacts, including economic and biodiversity loss, as well as public health issues. Preventing food from becoming waste in the first place is one of the most impactful actions we can all take to reduce the environmental harm associated with food loss and waste!
This Food Waste Prevention Week, join the CEC, the Red de Bancos de Alimentos de México (Red BAMX) and UTHealth Houston School of Public Health for a webinar, where we will explore how our food choices and relationship with food play an essential and multifaceted role in contributing to our health and well-being, but also as a powerful tool for reducing food waste and strengthening food security within our communities.
During this webinar, you will learn practical strategies for optimizing food use, improving nutrition at home and understanding the impacts that our food choices have on sustainability. Additionally, we will reflect on the importance of food as a key factor in preventing disease and building healthy habits for families.
Join this conversation with experts in food security and nutrition and discover how we can create positive change in our homes and communities!
Date: 11 April 2025
Time: 2:00 PM–2:50 PM ET
This webinar will be held in English and Spanish, with simultaneous interpretation provided in English, Spanish and French.

About the CEC
The Commission for Environmental Cooperation (CEC) was established in 1994 by the governments of Canada, Mexico and the United States through the North American Agreement on Environmental Cooperation, a parallel environmental agreement to NAFTA. As of 2020, the CEC is recognized and maintained by the Environmental Cooperation Agreement, in parallel with the new Free Trade Agreement of North America. The CEC brings together a wide range of stakeholders, including the general public, Indigenous people, youth, nongovernmental organizations, academia, and the business sector, to seek solutions to protect North America’s shared environment while supporting sustainable development for the benefit of present and future generations
The CEC is governed and funded equally by the Government of Canada through Environment and Climate Change Canada, the Government of the United States of Mexico through the Secretaría de Medio Ambiente y Recursos Naturales, and the Government of the United States of America through the Environmental Protection Agency.
