Sustainable Solid Waste Management

Sustainable Solid Waste Management

Economic growth has placed a high demand on natural resources. It has also created a growing waste generation. The sustainable management of this waste is crucial for the preservation of the environment. Moreover, reducing solid waste and closing material loops will help minimize the environmental impacts of waste. All along the value chain of resources and products there are considerable economic opportunities. As an extension of our previous work on green growth, here we explore opportunities that encourage circular economy, as well as, broader strategies for sustainable materials management. Priority will be given to actions that increase collaboration and enhance the engagement of consumers and communities. Importance will be placed on the relative to efficient use of resources by the private sector and local governments. That is, by reducing, reusing, repurposing, repairing and recycling waste.
