Summary of the matter addressed in the submission:

The Submitter asserts that Mexico is failing to effectively enforce its environmental laws with respect to exposure to radiation among residents of Los Altares in Hermosillo, Mexico.

 

Summary of the response provided by the Party:

In its response, Mexico states that the submission lacks clarity, consistency, and legal support. It also states that there is no evidence of the alleged damages to its property and family. The Submitter states that the National Nuclear Safety and Safeguards Commission conducted an inspection of the Submitter’s dwelling without finding evidence of radiation generated by human activity and that it has no record of temporary storage of radioactive waste in Sonora. Mexico states that there are no authorizations for nuclear and/or radioactive activities and that there is no information on the Submitter’s assertions on nuclear and radioactive activities in Sonora. The Party also states that there is no information on any radioactive waste management in Los Altares, Hermosillo, Sonora. Mexico affirms that there is no relation between the facts indicated in the submission and the operation of the then hazardous waste disposal site known as Cytrar, and therefore requests that the submission be terminated.
