Strategic Plan for North American Cooperation in the Conservation of Biodiversity
Strategic Plan for North American Cooperation in the Conservation of Biodiversity
Description
Aware that biodiversity conservation is a complex issue being dealt with by a number of organizations, and in response to the recommendations made by the 1997 “” that required the CEC to have a strategic vision of its contribution to sustainable development in North America, the Council decided that a biodiversity strategy tailored to CEC’s unique features should be prepared.
Subsequently, a project to define the focus and long-term agenda of CEC’s Conservation of Biodiversity Program was approved by Council in late 1999. In 2001, Council Resolution 01-03 (Appendix 2) established the Biodiversity Conservation Working Group (BCWG) to guide and assist the Parties in finalizing the (Strategic Plan) and to provide advice to the Council for its implementation according to the above-mentioned Resolution. The Terms of Reference for the BCWG are provided in Appendix 3. The Strategic Plan will be updated every five years.
