Join Us for the North American Pollutant Release and Transfer Register (PRTR) Initiative Meeting!
Mark your calendar for the Meeting of the North American Pollutant Release and Transfer Register (PRTR) Initiative, hosted by the Commission for Environmental Cooperation (CEC) in a hybrid format, on 26 and 27 February 2025.
This meeting will bring together representatives of the national PRTR programs—and from other government agencies, nongovernmental organizations, industry, academia, and the public—to exchange information and ideas about pollution reporting, sustainable industry, and access to environmental information across North America.
Participants will have the opportunity to learn from and exchange with PRTR program representatives about activities and progress relative to reporting of industrial pollutants at the national level. The CEC will also provide information about the North American PRTR Initiative, including a demonstration of the Taking Stock Online website and with tools to allow participants to explore current and potential uses of PRTR data to address concerns about industrial pollution across the region. Participants will also be able to contribute ideas about the Pollution Prevention (P2) Challenge, a project involving the automotive manufacturing industry and supply chain and developed as a follow-up to recommendations in the Action Plan to Enhance the Comparability of PRTRs in North America.
Participation in the meeting is free of charge and simultaneous interpretation will be provided in English, French and Spanish. Due to limited in-person capacity, we encourage participants to take advantage of the hybrid format. Online attendees will be able to engage with the speakers, ask questions, and share insights virtually.

The CEC’s North American PRTR initiative promotes improved comparability, quality and coverage of national PRTR data, to support the tracking of releases and transfers of industrial pollutants across North America and enhance access to and use of the information to develop sound pollution prevention and reduction initiatives. About the CEC
The Commission for Environmental Cooperation (CEC) was established in 1994 by the governments of Canada, Mexico and the United States through the North American Agreement on Environmental Cooperation, a parallel environmental agreement to NAFTA. As of 2020, the CEC is recognized and maintained by the Environmental Cooperation Agreement, in parallel with the new Free Trade Agreement of North America. The CEC brings together a wide range of stakeholders, including the general public, Indigenous people, youth, nongovernmental organizations, academia, and the business sector, to seek solutions to protect North America’s shared environment while supporting sustainable development for the benefit of present and future generations
The CEC is governed and funded equally by the Government of Canada through Environment and Climate Change Canada, the Government of the United States of Mexico through the Secretaría de Medio Ambiente y Recursos Naturales, and the Government of the United States of America through the Environmental Protection Agency.
