Montreal, 24 May 2018—On 26 June, the Commission for Environmental Cooperation’s (CEC) Joint Public Advisory Committee (JPAC) will host a public meeting in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, United States, to discuss opportunities for expanding private sector engagement in CEC work and future areas of environmental cooperation across North America.
Register to participate in-person or via webcast at: www.cec.org/Council2018. Limited financial assistance is available for travel and lodging and may be requested (via the online registration form) before 28 May 2018.
Building on the successful JPAC session that took place last November in Chicago on “NAFTA’S Environmental Side Agreement: Assessing the Past, Looking Towards the Future,” the JPAC forum will focus on emerging topics related to environment and economic growth, including increasing private sector engagement in CEC initiatives and highlighting examples of successful indigenous community and private sector collaborations.
The CEC’s JPAC forum is being held in conjunction with the 25th Regular Session of the CEC’s governing Council, which is composed of the cabinet-level environment ministers of Canada, Mexico, and the United States.
Participation at the JPAC forum is open to the public and free of charge.
If you cannot attend the forum in person, you can participate online through our webcasts and Facebook Live sessions.
About the CEC
The Commission for Environmental Cooperation (CEC) was established in 1994 by the governments of Canada, Mexico and the United States through the North American Agreement on Environmental Cooperation, a parallel environmental agreement to NAFTA. As of 2020, the CEC is recognized and maintained by the Environmental Cooperation Agreement, in parallel with the new Free Trade Agreement of North America. The CEC brings together a wide range of stakeholders, including the general public, Indigenous people, youth, nongovernmental organizations, academia, and the business sector, to seek solutions to protect North America’s shared environment while supporting sustainable development for the benefit of present and future generations
The CEC is governed and funded equally by the Government of Canada through Environment and Climate Change Canada, the Government of the United States of Mexico through the Secretaría de Medio Ambiente y Recursos Naturales, and the Government of the United States of America through the Environmental Protection Agency.
