Montreal, 25 October 2017—With renegotiation of the North American Free Trade Agreement underway, the Joint Public Advisory Committee (JPAC) of the Commission for Environmental Cooperation (CEC) invites you to join their expert public forum on the future of NAFTA’s environmental side agreement.
Hosted in Chicago, Illinois, NAFTA’s Environmental Side Agreement: Assessing the Past, Looking Towards the Future, will bring together a select group of experts in trade and environment who have experience with the current side agreement (the North American Agreement on Environmental Cooperation) and with assessing the environmental impacts of trade.
This event will be broadcast live in English, French and Spanish on the CEC website and on Facebook Live. Participate in Q&A sessions remotely by sending a message or question during the JPAC forum via our Facebook page or Twitter using the handle @CECweb or the hashtag #JPACChicago. You can also email your questions to info@cec.org.

Join in and be a part of this important discussion! JPAC invites the public to submit responses to discussion questions online in advance of the meeting. Responses will be reviewed by the JPAC members prior to the official advice they will draft for the CEC Council on this timely matter.
About the CEC
The Commission for Environmental Cooperation (CEC) was established in 1994 by the governments of Canada, Mexico and the United States through the North American Agreement on Environmental Cooperation, a parallel environmental agreement to NAFTA. As of 2020, the CEC is recognized and maintained by the Environmental Cooperation Agreement, in parallel with the new Free Trade Agreement of North America. The CEC brings together a wide range of stakeholders, including the general public, Indigenous people, youth, nongovernmental organizations, academia, and the business sector, to seek solutions to protect North America’s shared environment while supporting sustainable development for the benefit of present and future generations
The CEC is governed and funded equally by the Government of Canada through Environment and Climate Change Canada, the Government of the United States of Mexico through the Secretaría de Medio Ambiente y Recursos Naturales, and the Government of the United States of America through the Environmental Protection Agency.
