Forest Loss in Glacier National Park
As part of our mapping work, we came across noticeable forest loss in Glacier National Park between 2010/15. Upon further research, we realized this was due to the 2015 Thompson Fire which tells a story of coordination & emergency response.
Though several years have passed since that 2015 fire, the story of emergency response efforts remains, exemplifying the long-lasting and important work firefighters, forest managers, and local media play in fire response.
Maps not only help us navigate the world around us, they also hold archival power and remind us of the human and environmental stories we shouldn’t forget.
