As part of its initiative on Food Waste Reduction and Recovery, the CEC organized a number of events covering topics related to food loss and waste in Canada, Mexico and the United States. The North American Workshop on Food Waste Reduction and Recovery brought together government, industry, business and other experts from Canada, Mexico and the United States from 28 February to 2 March 2017 to discuss opportunities to reduce food loss and waste across the food supply chain, with an emphasis on post-harvest food production, processing and manufacturing, distribution, retail, and foodservice.

A joint initiative of the World Bank and the CEC Secretariat, the International Workshop on Food Loss and Food Waste took place on 7 to 9 November 2016. The workshop brought together experts from government, civil society, the private sector, food bank operators, and nongovernmental organizations to discuss issues, challenges and opportunities to address food waste.

The CEC’s Joint Public Advisory Committee led a public forum, Reducing and Managing Food and Organic Waste Streams in North America, on 23 March 2017. It brought together citizens and stakeholders to engage with experts from academia, government, and the private sector to discuss issues, challenges and opportunities for reducing, recovering, diverting and processing food and organic waste.
