La Comisión para la Cooperación Ambiental (CCA) invita al público en general a participar en la sesión anual de su Consejo —instancia rectora de la Comisión, integrada por los ministros federales de medio ambiente de Canadá, Estados Unidos y México—, a celebrarse los días 27 y 28 de junio de 2017. Para conmemorar el 150 aniversario de Canadá, la sesión de Consejo 2017 de la CCA se llevará a cabo en la cuna de la Confederación Canadiense: Charlottetown, Isla del Príncipe Eduardo.
El evento incluirá tres elementos en los que la ciudadanía podrá participar:
- Hablemos de innovación, intercambio con los participantes registrados en torno al tema “Innovación para un crecimiento limpio en América del Norte”, a llevarse a cabo la tarde del 28 de junio.
- Exhibición interactiva Comunidades interconectadas para un #futurosaludable, en la sede misma del evento.
- Foro público del Comité Consultivo Público Conjunto (CCPC) de la CCA. El 27 de junio, precediendo a la sesión de Consejo, se llevará a cabo esta reunión de un día, en la que comunidades costeras y ribereñas de América del Norte compartirán las soluciones locales innovadoras ante los desafíos ambientales a los que se enfrentan.
La participación en el segmento público la sesión de Consejo 2017 de la CCA y el foro del CCPC —ambos abiertos a todo el público— es gratuita. Los participantes deberán registrarse antes de las 17:00 horas del domingo 25 de junio.
Se contará con interpretación simultánea en español, francés e inglés para los participantes tanto en persona como en línea.
La participación en el segmento público la sesión de Consejo 2017 de la CCA y el foro del CCPC —ambos abiertos a todo el público— es gratuita. El cupo disponible es limitado y todos los participantes deberán registrarse en línea con anticipación.

Panel 1 – Sustainable and innovative water-related businesses: Benefiting local economies while protecting the environment
Sustainable water-related businesses and activities have shown a high potential for long-term growth and local employment. This panel will discuss opportunities for supporting local development while at the same time protecting the environment and its natural resources. It will highlight activities from the private sector, including aquaculture and sustainable tourism, as well as organizations focusing on revitalizing local economies and neighborhoods.

Panel 2 – Increasing resilience through cooperation: Replicating innovative local solutions to environmental security challenges
Waterside communities are faced with increased environmental security challenges. This panel will present and discuss local solutions to these risks while allowing the public to also share their knowledge of similar experiences. This dialogue will help advance potential innovations that can lead to increased resilience of North American communities.

Panel 3 – Sustainable economic growth on the water’s edge: Protecting water-based jobs and communities through water-based conservation
Social and economic development are advanced when natural resources are secured through policies that promote conservation and sustainable yield. This panel will discuss some of the environmental challenges faced by communities living near the water and offer successful case studies that might serve as models to help other North American communities facing similar issues.

Innovation Jam Session with North American Youth
This intergenerational workshop is an opportunity to come up with solution-focused actions that will maximize youth engagement and contribution in solving the complex sustainability issues currently facing North America. The CEC will solicit public input on tangible ways to engage youth on issues like food waste reduction and recovery and reducing marine litter. The session will be facilitated by Eric Dannenmaier, chair of the CEC Joint Public Advisory Committee (JPAC) and Meredith Adler, JPAC member.
