This workshop will bring together researchers, managers and enforcement staff from Canada, Mexico and United States to share scientific and trade information about freshwater turtles and tortoises (trade in both pets and meat), establish research and management goals, and revise policies for securing turtle conservation for the twelve (12) priority species included in the Sustainable Trade in Turtles and Tortoises: Action Plan for North America.

This workshop will bring together law and regulatory enforcement officers, CITES authorities, researchers, experts, producers and industry representatives to share information and experiences, as well as the basis, methodologies and tools for identifying wood from timber species identified as priorities in the Action Plan, to strengthen the enforcement of applicable CITES provisions and other laws regulating their trade in the region.

As part of the Commission for Environmental Cooperation’s (CEC) project Supporting Sustainable Trade of CITES Species, this workshop will gather government officials and law enforcement officers from Canada, Mexico and the United States to increase the ability to identify shark fins originating from Appendix II species, increase detection of illegal trade in shark fins, and identify strategies to address the illegal trade through enhanced in-country and between-country collaboration.

As part of the Commission for Environmental Cooperation’s (CEC) project Supporting Sustainable Trade of CITES Species, this workshop will gather IUCN Red list assessment experts, key stakeholders, law enforcement officers, and the project’s Steering Committee to strengthen collaborative support for sustainable trade of 16 trinationally agreed tarantula species.
